Chapter Proposal

This is my chapter proposal for the edited volume Where East Meets (Mid)West: Exploring a Regional Divide . I am sharing it here for two reasons: (1) other people have shared their proposal templates with me to my great advantage, so I am hoping to pass along the benefit to others; (2) if someone else is researching maps of the Midwest and comes across this blog, please do get in touch! *** To the editors: I am writing to submit a proposal entitled “‘ All this fuzziness:’ Geospatial Images and Imaginings of ‘The Midwest.’” My title draws from Kritika Agarwal’s article in the American Historical Association publication Perspectives , where she writes: “All this fuzziness about what Midwestern history is… means there is plenty of room for the field to grow” (2018). The ambiguity about the Midwestern United States of America is mirrored in representations of the region in visual culture.
